The Cards of Destiny

The Cards of Destiny
A Card Routine By George Buckley
(With credit to Deddy Corbuzier’s “Free Will”)
(And, Newell Unfried’s “Fallen Angel’s”)

A few years ago I saw Brian Bence perform a wonderful little effect called “Free Will”.  The concept was to say the least awesome.  I purchased the effect and played with it quite a bit.  In the process of trying to keep the amount of “stuff” I carry around to a minimum I came up with this card routine.

Effect:   Using an antique deck of cards and an aged piece of paper the magician predicts which cards will be in three different places.

"OMG"

"OMG"

A storyline by: George Buckley

This is George's version of the "The Biddle Card Vanish" or "Biddle Trick"
This effect is called OMG because that is usually the reaction it gets.

Bingo Trick

Ace Gorham's Bingo Trick

Ask the audience to shuffle the bingo cards hand 1 to the magician and the rest are dealt out among themselves. Then the magician makes a prediction and the audience is asked to call out their numbers 1 by 1. Spectator 1 call out their number under B then spectator calls out their number under I and so on. The numbers are added up and it will match the prediction the magician made in advance.

Bermuda Coins

At our club you have undoubtedly enjoyed the performances of both George and Scotty performing this amazing effect. Is it a puzzle, a trick, sleight of hand or what?

Effect: 3 rows of 13 coins are laid out in the shape of a triangle the magician adds a coin to the triangle then all 3 rows are counted again and you still have 13 coins in each row, the amazing thing is you can keep adding coins to the rows and you still have 13 coins in each row.

Monte or Nice

Monte or Nice
A routine by: George Buckley
Produced and Distributed by Mirth -n- Magic™
HISTORY:
Today this card trick is know as "This n That" and also Krisper’s "Colour Monte". Credits for the
trick go to Ed Marlo’s “Quick Three Way” display and Bill Elliot who used the move in a trick named
"Three Card Monkey Business" (1957) and Jim Temple’s “Colour Monte” (1968). “Colour Monte” is a
classic effect and should be in every magician’s “bag of tricks”, it is truly one of the great card effects.
EFFECT:
The Magician asks if the spectator has been “Naughty” or “Nice” this year. He informs the audience
that he has come up with a card trick to predict which one a spectator has been. A spectator is chosen.
Three cards are shown front and back. Spectator is shown that there are two nice cards and one naughty
card. “But”, the magician states, “That’s not how Santa actually works”. He states that Santa knows when
we have been naughty and shows that there are three naughty cards. He states that Santa knows when
you’ve been nice and then shows that there are three nice cards. The magician then places the three cards
face down on the table. He then allows the spectator to choose a card, with a little guidance, head nodding,
and a wink. One is “Naughty”, one is “Nice” and the other is the “Easter Bunny”.

“The Other Side of a Card Trick”

The Other Side of a Card Trick
A Story line By George Buckley
(With credit to Martin Gardner’s “Mathematics, Magic and Mystery”)

I know a lot of magician’s hate the “21 Card Trick”, but I wanted to share a story line that I use for this effect.  October 25th is always the start of “National Magic Week” and what better way to entertain and educate our audience than to perform an effect that many of them might have learned as children. Their Dads or favorite uncles may have taught them this card effect and this may evoke memories of times forgotten.  Most people know a little about Houdini, but this will be a chance to educate the public on his life and National Magic Week.

“Spectator Cuts to the Aces"”

“Spectator Cuts to the Aces"”
A Routine By: Ed Marlo
A Four Ace Trick by Ed Marlo
Here is my version of Ed Marlo’s “The Spectator Cuts to the Aces”. You can find this effect on Ed Marlo’s DVD “The Legend”. The companion DVD “The Cardician” is also a great source of
Marlo effects.

Effect:
A spectator cuts a deck of cards into four stacks. After moving cards from the top to the bottom
and dealing cards onto each stack, they find they have produced the four aces and the magician never
touched the cards during the actual performance.

“Blue Ridge Blowout”

“Blue Ridge Blowout”
Idea from Juan Tamariz’ contribution to Harry Lorayne’s “Apocalypse” Vol 10, No. 7 and an
extension from “Reds and Blacks” from The Royal Road to card Magic.

When was the last time you saw a card effect that really made you say “WOW”. The effect we saw
at the 30 Oct 2006 meeting had all of us saying “WOW”. Then we started doing what is really the
best part of being a Magic Ring,…we started learning magic. By the time we finished with this card
trick it had everything a good trick should have— a good plot, ease of execution, and a terrific
impact on those who see it. We have mentioned that the wise magician never reveals his methods
to the curious, and in describing this trick we reiterate this counsel, for, once you have told how
simple the trick is, you have lost the use of a superb feat of card magic. ! !

The Plot: A magician introduces a deck of cards. Two spectators chose a card at random. The
cards are inserted back in the deck and the deck is cut and separated into
two piles. The magician then locates the selected cards, with a wonderful surprise at the end!

“We have been readers of VANISH magazine since day one and love watching it’s continued success and growth since its inception.
We love the ease and convenience of downloading each issue, yet it has the feel and layout
of a real magazine.
What more could you ask for?
MORE VANISH MAGAZINES!!!”
MICHAEL GILES
"ALL the VANISH magazines are with me everywhere I go (on my laptop and mobile devices) so that I can read them while I'm on the road and refer back to all the great articles whenever
I want to. VANISH magazine is the best collection
of articles by working professionals.
It gives you the best access to the people
who are in the know.
I love it!"
ROBERT STRONG"Congrats on your new magazine, VANISH. Well done! I hope and trust that you have continued success!"
JEFF HOBSON
"Love the magazine, and the format! I've never missed an issue. It's the best value out there, the price is right, and the new iPad edition is
"Awesome Sauce!!"
MAGIC MIKE SEGAL

“I think it’s great! Definitely directed at the performing magician - which is a niche not covered by any other publication!"
BILL ABBOTT

"I think VANISH should be AKA ' Glue' – You
just can't put it down!"
WAYNE DOBSON

"VANISH magazine somehow manages to bridge the gap, ushering in the future of Magic while honouring it's past."
BRO GILBERT

"VANISH isn't just a magazine you casually read and then toss aside. In a single month, VANISH magazine has more practical advice for working magicians than all the other magic magazines combined. If it were offered as a print edition, VANISH would find a respected place of honor on my bookshelf (and not hidden under my mattress like all those other magazines)."
DOUG SCHEER

The internet has already had a major impact on how magicians find and access information, and now the International digital magic publication VANISH has embraced these changes bringing us the new fabulous magic magazine
of the future.
ALAN WATSON

“Just wanted to say I just received my free download and I’m very impressed!
Great magazine!”

"VANISH MAGIC MAGAZINE RULES!!!"
KEVIN JAMES

"A practical and substantial magazine done by pros. A real treat to see VANISH appear!"
RAFEAL BENATAR
"Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy reading VANISH magazine. It’s got a great international feel! You’ve had me hooked since the first issue and I always look forward to the next issue. You guys are definitely covering new territory. Congratulations and keep up the great work!"
BILL HERZ
"VANISH Magazine: professional contributors,
'real world' advice, 'worker’s' material, beautifully produced, now available for the iPad,
and above all…it’s FREE!
What’s not to love about all of that?"
SCOTT WELLS
It is a crime that this magazine is free. This is better laid out and better content than many of the paid magazines out there. There is no reason anyone who has an interest in magic on any level is not reading this. In this day of age of "everything comes with a price," this is unbelievable."
BANACHEK

"I just read a copy of VANISH magazine and in a word, "WOW!"! It looks great, and I am floored by the number of excellent articles by a variety of writers with great photos as well. I cannot wait for the next issue! Bravo!"
